MAKING MIRACLES AFTER A FIRE

SIXTH LIGHT – Chana Zwiebel: feeding, sheltering, and raising money for families who were affected by the 2018 Camp Fire in Northern California

While 3 separate fires raged in the state of California and thousands of families were evacuated, the Camp Fire in Northern California was just 5 minutes from Chana Zwiebel’s doorstep.

With a staggering 14,000 homes partially destroyed or completely in ashes, the number of people who lost everything – literally everything – is astounding. Homes, businesses, family heirlooms, photos and memories have turned to dust.

Plastered across the news for days, it was nearly impossible to miss the blazing California wildfire that wiped out over 150,000 acres. The devastation is utterly incomprehensible.

But what you might not have heard about is the way Chana Zwiebel and her husband stepped up to help shoulder the burden of feeding, housing and clothing the shocking number of people running for their lives from the flames.

Streaming into Chico, CA, where the Zwiebels run an active Chabad Center, were hundreds of fire victims. Physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted, some arriving with just the clothes they were wearing.

For more than 2 weeks, Chana Zwiebel has been offering hot soup and fresh challah to everyone who shows up on her doorstep.

The Zwiebels, who already raised and distributed thousands of dollars and fed hundreds of meals to the hungry, will stop at nothing to make sure everyone is as well taken care of as possible.

As one community member said, “Chana and her husband specialize in making miracles out of very little. She really deserves a shoutout!”

Together with her husband, she’s is leading a massive effort to help people get back on their feet after their shocking loss.

From feeding the hungry to raising money and collecting donated cars to offering a listening ear and even a place to stay, Chana and her family are the ultimate example of what it means to be a force for good in the world.
